Schottland - Sprachen

In Schottland wird Englisch, Schottisch Gälisch und Lowland Scots gesprochen. Jedoch wird Englisch von der Mehrheit der Schotten gesprochen. 30 Prozent der in Schottland lebenden Menschen sprechen fließend Scots und nur ein Prozent geben an, Schottisch-Gällisch als Muttersprache zu sprechen. Schottisch-Gälisch wird vor allem auf den Äußeren Hebriden gesprochen.

Sowohl Englisch als auch Scots werden vom schottischen Parlament als Amtssprache anerkannt. Das Projekt „Schottisches Wörterbuch“ wird von staatlicher Seite finanziell unterstützt und soll die schottische Sprache am Leben halten.
